The architectural sector is plagued with instability, precariousness and stressful demands and responsibilities. Unpaid overtime, exploitative internships, and burnout are all too common in the industry. Issues of lengthy overtime and lack of work life balance, which result in mental health issues, are rife and start even before architects enter the workforce; at university.
Are you fed up with feeling overworked, underpaid, and undervalued?
You don’t have to accept this. If you want to fight for better wages and conditions, join UVW union today.
UVW’s architects branch made history in 2022 when architectural workers at Atomik Architecture in London became the first private-sector architecture staff in the UK to initiate a strike ballot. Sparked by the cost-of-living crisis, low wages and management’s refusal to address concerns over poor working conditions, the action marked a bold stand in an industry with little history of union organising.
Supported by UVW, the workers challenged a culture of overwork and exploitation, sending a powerful message that collective resistance is necessary.
We are a community and a trade union of low-paid, migrant, marginalised and under-represented workers. We fight the bosses for dignity and respect through direct and legal action!
